Body Exfoliation

Body Exfoliation

Exfoliation is part of great skin care!

It is the removal of the oldest skin cells that cling to the skins outermost surface of the epidermis. Exfoliation is an important part of both facial and body treatments. When done correctly and with quality products, exfoliation causes the skin to feel and look soft, smooth and fresh! Exfoliation also makes it easier for serums and creams to penetrate deeper into the skin to do their job.

Mechanical Exfoliation

Where skin cells are physically rubbed off with an abrasive agent, like salt scrubs, or cream exfoliants with beads for the face and body. Stay away from scrubs like apricot kernel scrubs that can cause micro tears in your skin, causing dryness, tightness and irritation.

Chemical Exfoliation

Enzymes, alphahydroxy acids (AHA’s) or betahydroxy acids (BHA’s) loosen the glue-like substance that holds the dead cells together, allowing them to slough away. Chemical peels are generally used for the face and these are a deeper results driven peel that when used correctly give amazing smoothness and youthfulness. At Brighton Beauty + Medispa our body exfoliations are carried out in the comfort and warmth of our jetspa body bed, we use a number of high quality body exfoliants but our most popular is the sea salt scrub infused with fine essential aromatherapy oils. Sea salts have amazing properties to help re-mineralize the body as well as smooth and hydrate.

Why is exfoliation important?

As we age the process of cell turnover slows down and cells start to build up unevenly giving the skin a dry, rough and dull appearance. Exfoliation is very beneficial it reveals the fresher, younger skin cells below. Professional body exfoliation not only smooths and softens the skin evenly and thoroughly but also deeply relaxes the body! **You can always continue with a specialised body wrap or just prepare the body for that perfect all over even spray tan!
